Rebecca Zelis, Jewelry Artist

From the Studio

Hello & Welcome

February 14th, 2010 by Mark

I'm Mark, Rebecca's husband. I'm her technical half. She works in fire and metal, I with 1&0's.

We met at Rhode Island School of Design, in Providence as Resident Assitants. She was a Jewelry and Light Metals Major, I was a Film/Animation Major. Since graduating, for 15(?!) years Rebecca and I have been nurturing her business. We would do the occasional local show and fostered wonderful relationships with galleries that carried her work while I worked to make ends meet and provide health insurance. A couple of years ago we packed up our children and I left a lucrative job in Chicago to move to Vermont. Though she comes from hammers and fire and I from circuits and code, we agreeed that the life we had created in Chicago was not sustainible and the birth or our children brought the importance of family into focus. The idea was to take a leap of faith, and rely on a craft-centered-income.

Somethings could have been timed better.

The economy began to tank and craftshows, seen as our bread-winner, did not return the investments they once had. The saving grace was in the handful of galleries with which we do wholesale work. The complete list ou can find here->,/galleries Sales through our partners has helped us weather the recession and now we are ready to resurface in ernest. I've just improved our web-presence.
